The Deacons of FBC are nominated and elected by the members of FBC to assist the Pastoral Ministry Team as servants of the church.
As stated in the First Baptist Church, Leland NC Ministry By-laws, "It shall be the duty of the Deacons to seek the salvation of the lost, to promote the Kingdom of God on earth, and to devote themselves to the spiritual welfare of God's Church. They shall serve with the Senior Pastor and Pastor Ministry Team in ministering to the needs of the members of the Church and community." "It shall be their duty to set the example in prospective member visitation and attendance upon all regular services. Their purpose shall be to advance the total mission of the Church."
It is once again time to begin the process of electing deacons to serve beginning in 2026 by receiving nominations from the membership of FBC. Nominees should meet the Biblical qualifications of Deacon as well as the requirements set forth by First Baptist Church provided below.
Only those who are members of FBC are eligible to nominate up to 4 candidates, so prayerfully consider who you might nominate. All submissions should be made by Sunday, August 24.
Qualifications for Deacon:
1) “Reverent” and “of good reputation.” (1 Timothy 3:8 and Acts 6:3)
2) Born again and “Full of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 6:3)
3) “Full of wisdom.” (Acts 6:3)
4) “Full of faith”.” (Acts 6:5)
5) Truthful, sincere, and a man of his word. (1 Timothy 3:8)
6) A man who abstains from all intoxicating beverages, the abuse of drugs, or other harmful practices that might defile the temple of the Living God or cause a brother to stumble. (1 Timothy 3:8)
7) “Not greedy for money.” (1 Timothy 3:8)
8) Sound and stable in the teachings of the Bible and genuinely committed to believing and living out the revealed truths of the Christian faith . (1 Timothy 3:9)
9) Tested and proven to be a growing and maturing Christian who is above reproach and fully devoted to God. (1 Timothy 3:10) He should be a member of First Baptist Church Leland for at least one year.
10) Single or the husband of one wife. (1 Timothy 3:12)
11) Manages his home and exercises control over his children to the best of his ability. He should be respected as the spiritual head of his household. (1 Timothy 3:12)
In addition to the requirements of 1 Timothy 3:8-13 and Acts 6:3-5, a Deacon of First Baptist Church should be:
- A born-again, baptized individual who has been a member of First Baptist Church for at least one year
- An individual who regularly attends all worship services unless Providentially hindered
- A regular attending member (or teacher) of an FBC Sunday School class, Adult Bible Study, or both
- An individual who gives in the manner Scripture describes
- A person who is actively involved in at leas one ministry at FBC

Once these nominations are received, the Deacon Nominating Team will take the names for consideration and examination. When this is completed, they will bring a recommendation of candidates to the church for approval by vote at the Annual Church Business Meeting on Sunday, December 7.
